View this collection of encaustic work created on a variety of substrates such as premium cradled birch wood panels, and wood panels designed specifically for the encaustic medium. Developed recipes of beeswax, damar resin crystals, and carnauba wax provide an archival base enhanced with pigments, oil paint, pigment sticks, graphite, tar, and/or wax snaps (Enkaustikos). An array of tools are used to engrave marks. The wax is fused onto the substrate with a propane torch. Some final finishes are smooth, luminous, and transparent while others have an opaque appearance with textured areas of interest. In addition, encaustic pieces may contain embedded 3-dimensional mixed media collage items fused within the surface.
